Ogre Battle is a strategy role-playing game in which you lead a rebellion against a ruling empire. Rather than turn-based grid skirmishes, you move squads of units across a real-time overworld map, sending them to capture towns and strongholds and intercept enemy forces. When two squads meet, the battle plays out semi-automatically based on unit classes, formation, terrain and time of day, so preparation and positioning matter more than direct control. Liberating towns raises or lowers your reputation depending on the alignment of the units you use, and reputation affects which characters join you and how the story resolves. Unit classes change and promote as characters gain levels and alignment shifts, and tarot cards can be used in battle for special effects. Multiple endings depend on your choices and standing.
