The Sega CD version of Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure, a side-scrolling platformer starring Pitfall Harry Jr., who sets out into the Central American jungle to rescue his captured father. You run, jump, climb and swing from vines and ropes across stages built from rainforest, waterfalls, mines and Mayan ruins, avoiding pits, spikes and hostile wildlife such as scorpions, bats and jaguars. Harry defends himself with a whip and with thrown stones, and can find items and treasure hidden off the main path. Hand-drawn artwork and fluid character animation define the visual style, and the CD release carries a recorded soundtrack rather than chip music. Levels reward careful timing on jumps and swings, and exploring side routes turns up extra pickups and secrets.
