Rainbow Islands Evolution is a platform game for the PlayStation Portable, continuing Taito's Rainbow Islands line. Your character creates solid rainbows that arc out ahead of him, and these serve as both weapon and platform: drop one on an enemy to defeat it, or cast a chain of them to climb upward through a stage. Levels are built vertically, so progress means ascending toward the top while dealing with enemies and hazards on the way, and collecting items dropped by defeated foes. The rainbow mechanic doubles as a puzzle element, since reaching hidden areas depends on where and how you place them. The presentation updates the series' bright, cartoon-styled islands, each with its own theme and a boss encounter, while keeping the short-session structure that suits handheld play.
