RPG Maker for the PlayStation is a creation tool rather than a conventional game. You build your own role-playing adventures from the console, laying out towns, dungeons and overworld maps from tile sets, placing NPCs and treasure, and scripting events with a menu-driven system that handles dialogue, cutscenes, item rewards and battle triggers. Characters, enemies, weapons, magic and shops are all configured through editors, and combat uses a turn-based system with stats you set yourself. Completed projects are saved to a memory card and can be played through from start to finish like any other RPG, then shared with anyone who has the same disc. A sample game and tutorial material are included to demonstrate how the pieces fit together. Expect to spend as much time planning and testing as playing.
