Shenmue II on the original Xbox continues Ryo Hazuki's search for his father's killer, taking him from Japan to Hong Kong. You explore dense urban districts and the towering Kowloon buildings, talking to residents, following leads, learning new martial arts moves and tracking down the people who can help you. As in the first game, the world runs on its own clock and routines, shops and streets can be entered, and you can take on jobs and street gambling to raise money when you need it. Fighting uses a free-battle system of strikes, throws and counters, while cinematic scenes rely on timed button prompts. This version includes an option to play through content covering the events of the first game, along with revised presentation for the platform.
