Shrek 2 for the Game Boy Advance is a handheld game based on the animated film. It is played from a side-on perspective, with you guiding characters from the movie through themed stages, dealing with enemies and hazards and jumping between platforms as you advance. Along the way there are items to pick up and obstacles that call for the abilities of a particular character. Levels are short and structured to suit portable play, and the story beats are relayed between stages through brief text and still artwork rather than cutscenes. The sprite work draws on the film's cast and settings, rendering the ogre, his companions and the fairy-tale world in a cartoon style suited to the Game Boy Advance hardware.
