Speedball 2100 is a PlayStation version of the futuristic arena sport Speedball 2. Two teams fight over a steel ball inside a walled pitch, scoring by throwing it into the goal or by striking the score-boosting targets and bumpers set into the arena. Tackling opponents is part of the rules, and flattening rival players is a legitimate tactic alongside passing and shooting. You control the team member closest to the ball, so play involves constant switching as possession changes. Between matches you use earnings to improve player attributes and strengthen the squad for tougher league opposition. The presentation updates the graphics and audio for the PlayStation while keeping the top-down viewpoint and fast, physical style of play. Two players can face off directly.
