Spyro: Year of the Dragon is a 3D platformer for the PlayStation and the third Spyro game on the system. You guide Spyro through hub worlds and their linked levels, gliding, charging, and using his fire breath while collecting gems and recovering stolen dragon eggs. Sparx the dragonfly again serves as a health meter and gem collector. Alongside Spyro, you play as several additional characters who each control differently and have their own styles of level and minigame, including sequences that trade platforming for shooting, skating, and combat. Levels also include flight stages, boss encounters, and optional challenges tied to specific eggs, so returning to earlier areas with new abilities is part of the structure. Progress depends on gathering enough eggs and gems to open later worlds.
