The original Xbox version of the action platformer adapting Tolkien's novel. You play as Bilbo Baggins on the journey from Bag End to the Lonely Mountain, passing through locations such as troll country, the goblin tunnels, Mirkwood and Lake-town. The game mixes platforming with combat using Sting and thrown stones, plus stealth passages where the ring makes Bilbo invisible for a short time. Objectives and optional tasks award courage, which upgrades his abilities as you go. Presentation uses a stylised, storybook art direction, with narration linking stages to the novel's chapters. Gandalf, the company of dwarves, Gollum and Smaug all feature as the story unfolds. Level design encourages exploring for hidden items alongside completing the main goals.
