Ultimate Spider-Man on Xbox is an open-world action game set across a cel-shaded New York City drawn in a comic-book art style. You swing between buildings, crawl walls and drop into street-level fights while working through story missions and optional activities such as races, combat challenges and civilian rescues. The campaign switches between two playable characters: Spider-Man, whose sections focus on agile web-based combat and traversal, and Venom, who plays as a heavier, more destructive brawler. Fights combine melee strikes with web attacks and environmental use, and free-roaming traversal across the city is a large part of the experience. Cutscenes are presented with comic panel framing and voice acting, and familiar villains from the Spider-Man comics turn up as bosses over the course of the story.
