This Game Boy Color release adapts the Dragon's Lair concept to a handheld action platformer. You control the knight Dirk the Daring as he works his way through a castle full of traps, hazards and monsters in an attempt to reach Princess Daphne, held captive by the dragon Singe. Rather than reproducing the arcade original's animated sequences, the game presents its rooms as side-scrolling stages, with jumping, climbing and sword swings used to deal with obstacles and enemies. Progress depends on learning the layout and timing of each hazard, and mistakes cost you a life and send you back to try the sequence again. The castle setting keeps the fantasy trappings of the arcade game, including flame pits, collapsing floors and the dragon waiting at the end.
