This handheld conversion brings the original top-down Grand Theft Auto to Game Boy Color. You control a criminal working your way up through city underworlds, taking jobs from payphones and completing them however you can: stealing cars, making deliveries, running down targets, or shaking off police pursuit. Cars can be hijacked at will and driven around a city seen from directly overhead, with the map scrolling to follow you. Each job earns money and score, and you need to hit a target amount before the game lets you progress. Police attention builds as you cause trouble, so part of the challenge is deciding when to commit to a job and when to abandon a hot vehicle and disappear into traffic on foot.
