Wario Land II is a platform game released on Game Boy Color, following Wario after his castle and treasure are raided. The central idea is that Wario has no health bar and cannot be defeated by enemies. Contact instead alters him: he can be flattened, set alight, inflated, turned into a spring or zombified, and each state grants movement abilities used to reach otherwise inaccessible areas. Progress is about puzzle-solving and exploration as much as jumping, since you often need to seek out a particular hazard on purpose. Levels contain hidden treasures and coins, and certain stages branch, sending you down alternate paths that lead to different chapters and multiple endings. The Game Boy Color release adds colour graphics while playing the same as the monochrome version.
