SoulCalibur on the Sega Dreamcast is a weapon-based 3D fighting game and the follow-up to Soul Blade. Characters fight with individual weapons such as swords, a rod, a scythe, nunchaku and a ring blade, using eight-way run to circle opponents in a fully 3D arena where ring-outs end rounds. The eight-way guard impact system rewards precise defense by deflecting incoming attacks and creating openings for counters. The Dreamcast release adds Mission Battle mode, in which you travel a map completing fights with special conditions and earn points to unlock art, weapons and extra characters, alongside arcade, versus, team battle, survival, time attack and training modes. Character customization is limited to unlockable weapons that alter reach and damage.
