Clockwork Knight 2 continues the Sega Saturn platform series starring Pepper, the wind-up toy soldier. As before, you move through side-scrolling stages set in and around a house after the toys have come to life, with 2D action layered over pre-rendered 3D backdrops. Pepper attacks with his key-shaped weapon, and stunned enemies and loose objects can be lifted and hurled at obstacles or other foes. Levels ask you to climb, time jumps between moving platforms and search the scenery for hidden pickups, ending in boss fights against larger toy opponents. Bonus sequences and unlockable extras break up the stage progression. The look and sound continue the first game's storybook toy-shop presentation, with animated character sprites and an upbeat soundtrack.
