Mortal Kombat II is a one-on-one fighting game featuring digitized sprites of live actors, presented here on the Sega Saturn. Matches are fought over two rounds, using separate punch, kick and block controls that support the series' uppercuts, sweeps, projectiles and juggle combos. The roster brings back several fighters from the first game and adds new characters, each with their own special moves and Fatalities. Stages are set across the game's outworld locations, and some arenas allow stage-specific finishing moves. In addition to Fatalities, you can perform alternate finishers that transform a defeated opponent rather than destroying them. Meeting certain conditions during play can lead to hidden characters and secret fights. You can work through the single-player ladder against CPU opponents or play head to head with a second player.
