Primal Rage is a one-on-one fighting game that replaces human martial artists with towering monsters, among them dinosaurs and giant apes, warring over a ruined Earth. Special moves are performed by holding buttons and rolling the directional pad, and each beast has its own throws, projectiles and finishing attacks. Small human worshippers periodically wander into the arena, where they can be devoured for a little health or trampled underfoot. The fighters were animated from stop-motion models, which gives them a distinctive claymation appearance against backdrops of shattered cities and prehistoric terrain. The Saturn version presents the arcade game on CD, with a single-player ladder of matches fought in best-of-three rounds and a two-player versus mode for head-to-head play.
