X-Men: Children of the Atom is a one-on-one 2D fighting game brought to the Sega Saturn from Capcom's arcade original. You pick a mutant and battle through opponents using six attack buttons, super jumps, air combos and meter-fuelled special moves drawn from each character's comic book powers. The roster covers X-Men such as Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Colossus and Psylocke alongside antagonists including Sentinel, Juggernaut and Magneto, each with their own animated stage. Sprites are large and heavily animated, and matches move at a fast pace with plenty of screen-filling attacks. Modes include arcade play against the CPU, versus matches for two players, and practice options. The Saturn version keeps the arcade structure and presentation, making it a straightforward pick-up-and-play fighter for anyone familiar with Capcom's approach to the genre.
