Brutal: Above the Claw is the Sega 32X version of the animal-themed one-on-one fighting game Brutal. You pick from a roster of anthropomorphic fighters, each with its own animation set and moves, and battle through opponents in traditional round-based matches. The hook is progression: rather than starting with a full move list, your fighter learns additional special techniques as you advance, with new inputs granted along the way and recorded so you can review what you have unlocked. Matches use standard punch and kick attacks alongside blocks, throws and the specials you have earned. The 32X release takes advantage of the add-on hardware for its presentation. Two players can face each other directly, and there are single-player ladders to work through against the computer.
