Primal Rage is a one-on-one fighting game in which the combatants are giant beasts rather than humans, including dinosaurs and enormous apes, battling for control of a devastated Earth. Each creature has its own set of special moves performed by holding buttons and rolling the directional pad, along with grabs, bites and stomps. Between rounds, tiny worshippers wander into the arena and can be eaten for health. The characters were animated from stop-motion models, giving the sprites a heavy, claymation look, and stages are built around ruined landscapes. This 32X release brings the arcade game to Sega's add-on hardware, with the usual arcade-style structure of fighting through a series of opponents in best-of-three matches, plus a two-player versus mode for head-to-head battles.
