X-Men 2: Clone Wars continues the Sega Genesis run of side-scrolling X-Men action games. You choose from a larger cast than before, with characters such as Wolverine, Cyclops, Beast, Psylocke, Gambit and Nightcrawler, and Magneto also becomes playable. Each character has a distinct movement and attack set, from wall climbing and teleporting to ranged energy blasts, so stages can be approached differently depending on who you take. Levels are longer platforming and combat gauntlets against alien forces, ending in boss encounters, and you can switch characters at checkpoints. Special mutant powers draw from a meter that recharges over time. Presentation uses large sprites, comic-styled cutscene panels and a driving soundtrack, and the difficulty remains demanding across the campaign.
