Bangai-O is a Treasure-developed shooting game for the Dreamcast in which you pilot a small mech through compact, maze-like stages viewed from a side-on perspective. Your robot can hover freely in any direction and fires either homing missiles or bouncing shots, and holding back on firing to gather nearby enemy bullets lets you unleash a much larger retaliatory blast, so the game rewards flying into danger rather than away from it. Levels are packed with turrets, enemy craft, and destructible scenery, and the screen frequently fills with hundreds of projectiles and explosions at once. Objectives usually involve clearing enemies or reaching an exit, often requiring you to navigate tight corridors while under fire. Between stages, characters trade short comedic dialogue. The pace is fast and the stages are short but dense.
