Mortal Kombat Gold is a Dreamcast fighting game that expands on the fourth main entry in the series. Fighters are rendered as 3D models but battle on a largely two-dimensional plane, with sidestepping available to move around attacks. Each character can draw a weapon during a match, and weapons can be knocked out of a fighter's hands and picked up off the ground. Stages contain loose objects that can be grabbed and thrown at opponents. The roster combines the fighters from the previous game with additional returning characters from earlier Mortal Kombat titles, each with their own special moves and Fatalities. Modes include single-player arcade ladder play against CPU opponents, two-player versus matches, and practice options. Series staples such as uppercuts, combo strings and hidden finishers are all present.
