Aladdin on Sega Genesis is a side-scrolling action platformer based on the Disney film. Aladdin carries a scimitar for melee attacks and a supply of apples he can throw at enemies from a distance, and he can hang from ledges, climb ropes and bounce off awnings and tent tops. Stages follow the story through the marketplace of Agrabah, the desert, the Cave of Wonders, the palace dungeons and Jafar's confrontation, with a magic carpet escape sequence and bonus rounds breaking up the platforming. Guards, snakes, scarabs and lava hazards fill the routes, while gems, extra lives and Genie tokens are hidden in barrels and jars. The game uses hand-drawn character animation, giving Aladdin a wide range of movements as he runs, ducks, jumps and fights.
