The Aquatic Games Starring James Pond is a Sega Genesis spin-off from the James Pond series that swaps platforming for a collection of sports events. Framed as an aquatic take on an athletics meeting, it puts Pond and a cast of sea creatures through short competitions that parody real Olympic disciplines, with events built around swimming, jumping, throwing and other timing- and button-based challenges. Each event has its own simple control scheme, usually a matter of building up power or hitting a rhythm, and you are scored and ranked against computer-controlled rivals. Events can be played in sequence as a full meeting or picked individually, and multiplayer lets a second player compete alongside you. Presentation is cartoonish, with bright underwater backdrops and comic animation for wins and failures.
