Lotus Turbo Challenge is a Genesis racing game built around Lotus road cars. Races are run against a field of rival drivers across a series of stages, with checkpoints that must be reached within a time limit to continue, so progress depends on both pace and consistency rather than a single finishing position. The driving is arcade-flavoured, with a strong sense of speed on straights and cars that slide if you carry too much entry speed into corners. Track settings change as you advance, and hazards such as traffic and roadside obstacles punish sloppy lines. Two players can compete at once in split-screen, each with their own view of the road. The presentation puts a car dashboard and instrumentation at the bottom of the screen during play.
