Phantasy Star II is a turn-based role-playing game for the Sega Genesis, continuing the science-fantasy series set in the Algol star system. You play as Rolf, an agent on the planet Motavia investigating why the Mother Brain system that manages the world has begun to fail and why once-docile creatures have turned hostile. A party of characters joins you over the course of the story, each with their own weapons and techniques. Battles are fought from a first-person view with menu commands, while exploration takes place across overhead town and wilderness maps and multi-floor dungeons with teleporters and shifting layouts. You manage equipment, healing items and techniques between fights, and progress requires steady leveling. The game uses battery-backed saving and includes a macro system for repeating combat commands.
