Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom is a turn-based role-playing game for the Sega Genesis. Its story spans three generations of a single family, and at key points you choose which of two women the hero marries; that choice determines who you play as in the next generation and which regions, allies and story path you see, giving the game branching routes and multiple endings. Combat is turn-based with menu commands, showing your party on screen against groups of enemies, and you can assign strategies to speed up routine fights. Exploration covers towns, overworld areas and dungeons, with equipment and techniques to manage as characters grow. Party members include both human and android characters, and the sword-and-sorcery presentation gradually reveals the science-fiction background familiar from the series.
