Race Drivin' is a Genesis conversion of Atari Games' first-person driving game, following on from Hard Drivin'. You drive from inside the cockpit using filled-polygon 3D graphics, with a dashboard view, mirror and a choice of automatic or manual transmission. Rather than conventional pack racing, the focus is on completing a course against the clock while passing checkpoints for extra time. The tracks combine a fast speed circuit with a stunt route featuring a loop, a long jump over a gap and a bank of narrow bridges, mixed in with public-road obstacles such as oncoming traffic and drawbridges. Crashing triggers an instant replay of the wreck from an outside camera before you are placed back on the road. Beating the course times lets you challenge a recorded champion lap.
