Battle Squadron is a vertically scrolling shoot-'em-up for the Sega Genesis, following a mission to rescue captured crew from an alien world. You fly a small fighter over organic and mechanical landscapes, weaving through enemy formations and bullet patterns while collecting power-ups that swap between different weapon types and increase their strength. Firepower can be upgraded through several levels, and smart bombs clear the screen when things get overwhelming. Two players can fly side by side simultaneously, sharing the same screen and the same waves of enemies. Stages funnel into large boss encounters and include branching routes into cave systems beneath the surface. Difficulty settings and a continue structure let you adjust how punishing the run becomes, and the game is played with a top-down view throughout.
