California Games brings together a set of West Coast themed sporting events, each played as a short self-contained challenge. Rather than traditional stadium sports, the lineup draws on activities such as half-pipe skateboarding, surfing, BMX riding, footbag and flying disc, each with its own control scheme and scoring rules. Some events reward stringing together tricks for style points, while others focus on timing, distance or staying upright. You can compete through the full slate of events in sequence for a combined total, practise individual events, or pass the controller between players to compare scores. The Genesis version presents the events with sprite-based visuals and a sunny beach and boardwalk backdrop. Play is built around learning each event's quirks and improving your personal bests over repeated attempts.
