Combat Cars is a vehicular racing game for the Sega Genesis, played from an overhead viewpoint that scrolls around compact circuit tracks. You pick a driver and car, then race against rivals while using weapons and pickups scattered around the course to slow them down. Collisions, hazards and tight corners matter as much as top speed, and prize money earned from finishing well can be put towards upgrades for your vehicle. There is a two-player mode alongside the single-player championship, so two people can race and shoot at each other on the same screen. The tone is cartoonish rather than realistic, with exaggerated cars and drivers, and the focus is on short races where interfering with the pack is part of the strategy.
