Phantasy Star IV is a turn-based role-playing game for the Sega Genesis and the concluding chapter of the original Algol saga. You begin as Chaz, a young hunter taking jobs on the planet Motavia as environmental disasters and monster attacks spread, and your party changes over the course of the story as characters join and leave. Battles are turn-based with menus, and party members can chain their skills and techniques together into combination attacks. Exploration spans towns, dungeons and eventually travel between planets, with vehicles and new areas opening as the plot advances. The story is told partly through comic-style panel cutscenes that frame conversations and key events. Hunter's Guild assignments provide side objectives alongside the main quest, and the game saves to battery-backed memory.
