Stormlord is a fantasy action platformer on the Sega Genesis. You control the Stormlord, a horned warrior who must free captured fairies scattered through each stage while an evil queen's forces stand in the way. Levels are built around single screens or tightly connected areas filled with hazards, enemy creatures and blocked paths, and progress depends as much on solving small environmental puzzles as on jumping and attacking. Items you find can be used to clear obstacles, open routes and reach fairies trapped in awkward places, so the game rewards examining a screen before rushing in. Your character fires projectiles at enemies, and contact with the many hazards drains life quickly. The presentation uses a storybook fantasy look with plants, insects and mythological creatures as recurring enemies.
