Strider on the Sega Genesis is a conversion of Capcom's arcade side-scrolling action game. You control Hiryu, a ninja-like operative who attacks with the Cypher, a short-range plasma blade swung in wide arcs. Hiryu is unusually mobile: he somersaults, slides, and clings to walls and ceilings to climb past obstacles and attack from above. Stages take you through a snowbound city, an airborne battleship, a jungle and other locations, each ending in a large boss encounter, with Grandmaster Meio behind the campaign. Enemies come in dense groups, and floating drone companions can be collected to add supporting fire. The game is short but demanding, built around learning enemy placement and using Hiryu's climbing and sliding moves to keep moving forward.
