Super High Impact is a Sega Genesis conversion of the arcade football game, played from an overhead angled view that scrolls with the action. You pick a team and call plays from an on-screen playbook, then take direct control of the ball carrier or a defender once the snap happens. The emphasis is on exaggerated arcade football rather than simulation: tackles are heavy, hits send players tumbling, and the pace is quick with short play clocks and simplified rules. Comic sound effects and cutaway reactions punctuate big plays and injuries. Two players can compete head to head, and single players face off against computer opponents in sequence. Controls are kept to a small number of buttons for passing, running, jumping and diving, so games move fast and rely on reflexes more than deep playcalling.
