Taz in Escape from Mars is a side-scrolling platformer starring the Tasmanian Devil. Marvin the Martian captures Taz to display him as the prize exhibit in a Martian zoo, and Taz breaks loose and works his way back home. You run, jump and use Taz's spinning tornado attack to smash through obstacles and enemies, and he can eat almost anything in his path. Levels move between Martian locations and Earth settings, with hazards, moving platforms and boss encounters along the way. Certain items transform Taz temporarily, changing how he moves or attacks for a short stretch. The cartoon presentation carries over into the animation and sound, with exaggerated expressions and slapstick reactions. It is a straightforward run-and-jump game built around momentum and Taz's destructive spin.
