The Terminator on Sega Genesis is a side-scrolling action game based on the film. You play as Kyle Reese, beginning in the machine-dominated future before travelling back to 1984 Los Angeles. Stages move left to right through ruined battlefields, city streets, a nightclub and other locations drawn from the movie, with Reese running, jumping and climbing while fighting off enemies. You start with limited firepower and pick up weapons and ammunition along the way, including firearms and explosives, which are needed against the tougher opposition. Hunter-killer machines and armed human enemies appear depending on the era you are in, and the relentless T-800 turns up as a threat you generally have to survive rather than simply outgun. Progress is a matter of learning enemy placement and managing your ammunition between checkpoints.
