Stimpy's Invention is a side-scrolling platform game for the Sega Genesis based on the Nickelodeon cartoon. You play as Ren and Stimpy through stages drawn from the show's settings and episodes, using each character's own attacks to clear obstacles and enemies. A second player can join in cooperatively, controlling the other half of the duo. Levels are built around jumping, timing and short action sequences, with boss encounters against familiar faces from the cartoon. The presentation puts a lot of effort into the show's animation style, with squashy sprites, exaggerated expressions and sampled sound effects lifted from the series' brand of slapstick. It is a straightforward licensed platformer in structure, with the humour and character design doing much of the work between the running and jumping.
