Thunder Fox is a side-scrolling action game for the Sega Genesis. You control a commando fighting through enemy soldiers, vehicles and installations across horizontally scrolling stages, moving on foot for most of the action and taking control of vehicles in certain sections. Your character carries a knife for close-quarters attacks and can pick up firearms and other weapons dropped by defeated enemies, switching between melee and ranged combat depending on the situation. Levels mix ground combat with sequences set on and around boats, trucks and enemy bases, and most end with a larger boss enemy that requires learning an attack pattern. Enemies come from both sides of the screen and in numbers, so positioning and weapon choice matter. The game supports two players, and the arcade-style structure keeps individual stages short.
