Warsong is a turn-based strategy game for the Sega Genesis. Each map is fought on a grid, and rather than moving individual soldiers you control commanders, each of whom can hire and lead a small group of mercenary units such as soldiers, cavalry, archers and magic users. Units that stay near their commander fight more effectively, so positioning matters as much as unit choice, and rock-paper-scissors relationships between unit types shape how engagements resolve. Combat between two stacks plays out in a short animated exchange. Commanders gain experience and can be promoted into stronger classes across the campaign, and gold earned from battles pays for troops in the next mission. The story links the maps together with dialogue scenes between chapters.
