Where in Time is Carmen Sandiego is the history-themed entry in the detective series, here on the Sega Genesis. A thief has taken something from the past, and you follow the trail by jumping between historical periods rather than travelling between countries. Witnesses at each destination give clues that reference people, events and inventions of a particular era, and you interpret them to decide which time to visit next. Descriptions of the suspect are collected along the way and entered into a database so a warrant can be issued before the arrest. Each case runs against a time limit, so wasted jumps count against you. The result is a puzzle game where progress depends on reading clues carefully and reasoning about when historical events took place.
